Clark County issued the following announcement on Jan. 5
The Clark County Utilities Department will raise rates for its water and sewer districts next year to continue to provide safe drinking water and high quality sewer service for more than 8,500 accounts and 22,000 people in four different counties.
The Board of Clark County Commissioners approved the 2022 rate structure at its meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The three-percent rate increases are caused by rising costs to maintain water and sewer systems, as well as annual pass through increases from water and sewer providers, including the city of Springfield and the village of Enon.
In 2021, Clark County Utilities Department did not increase rates for 10 of its 11 water and sewer districts to keep costs down for its customers.
“The costs to create clean drinking water and treat wastewater continue to increase,” said Utilities Director Chuck Bauer. "The water and sewer rates that people pay for those services also need to increase to maintain the financial stability of the department."
The Utilities Department is an enterprise that is funded entirely by ratepayers, not public tax dollars. The department maintains more than 88 miles of water mains, 108 miles of sewer lines, three treatment plants, 18 pumping stations and four elevated water tanks.
