State Rep. Tracy Richardson | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representative Tracy Richardson has expressed support for the residents of northern Union County following the Ohio Power Siting Board's (OPSB) decision to deny the Richwood Solar project. The proposed 250-megawatt solar-powered electric generating facility was set to be developed in Leesburg, Claibourne, and Taylor townships.
Richardson stated, "I attended several townhall meetings, where the message was clear from my northern Union County constituents, they don’t want this project." She added, "I am pleased to announce this decision of the board. The community joined together in opposition to this project, and I support the will of my constituents."
The project would have included large arrays of solar panels and a 50-megawatt battery energy storage system on 1,217 acres within a 1,435-acre area. However, it faced consistent opposition from local governments and their constituents. This led to OPSB's conclusion that the project did not meet the "public interest, convenience and necessity" criteria required by Ohio law.
The OPSB is tasked with ensuring that major utility energy generation and transmission infrastructure facilities serve the public interest for those affected by such projects.
