State Rep. Brian Stewart | The Ohio House of Representatives
Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, Matt Huffman, has appointed State Representative Brian Stewart as Chairman of the House Finance Committee for the 136th General Assembly. Stewart will oversee the committee responsible for crafting and enacting Ohio's biennial state budget.
"Responsibly managing Ohioans’ hard-earned tax dollars is one of the most important duties of state government," Stewart stated. He expressed his commitment to collaborating with Governor Mike DeWine, fellow legislators, and residents to pass a successful budget.
The committee also handles budgets for the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC), Industrial Commission, Transportation, and Capital projects. Speaker Huffman praised Stewart's leadership qualities: "Representative Stewart has been taking on the tough issues in the Ohio General Assembly since his first day on the job, and I am confident he will be the strong leader the House Finance Committee needs."
Stewart's previous experience includes serving on Ashville Village Council Finance Committee and as President of Pickaway County Board of Commissioners. During his tenure as County Commissioner, he maintained a balanced budget without deficit spending and increased cash reserves significantly.
In his time as State Representative, Stewart introduced 15 legislative pieces that passed in the Ohio House; 12 were signed into law.
