State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) has been appointed to the Joint Committee on Property Tax Review and Reform. The committee, consisting of five Representatives and five Senators, will work to submit a report to the General Assembly by December 31, with recommendations to reform state property tax law.
"There is a great deal of work needed to be done to review our outdated property tax policy and to find solutions that will help reduce the property tax burden placed on hard working Ohioans," said Richardson. "To be part of the Commission is a big responsibility that I take very seriously. My goal is to make a difference by rolling up my sleeves, collaborating with my colleagues, and problem-solving to find meaningful solutions to the challenges we face."
The committee will begin their work on curbing Ohio's increasing property tax issues with testimony from the Ohio Department of Taxation and Legislative Service Commission at their first meeting scheduled for Jan. 10.
"To protect vulnerable Ohioans, we need to work together to find effective and accurate long-term solutions for property tax assessments," said Representative Bill Roemer, co-chair of the committee.
"Local government has used a band-aid approach to solving increasing property tax evaluations," said Representative Tom Young. "This approach is a detriment to citizens and is forcing homeowners out of their homes all because of consistent increases in property taxes."
The committee will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 10:30 a.m. in an Ohio House Hearing Room.
