State Rep. Tracy Richardson | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representative Tracy Richardson's resolution, urging Congress to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, successfully moved through the Ohio House on Wednesday. The SAVE Act aims to secure voting rights for American citizens by mandating states to verify citizenship when individuals register to vote and remove non-citizens from voter registries.
Richardson emphasized the importance of this measure, stating, "The right to vote is a cherished and sacred right of Americans and the framework of safeguarding our self-governance." She further described the resolution as a "common-sense path to ending unconstitutional, non-U.S. citizen voting" and stressed its necessity in strengthening national elections.
To prove citizenship under the proposed act, individuals may present documents such as a U.S. passport, military ID card, government-issued ID card, certified birth certificate, adoption decree, Naturalization Certificate or an American Indian Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
House Concurrent Resolution 18 will now proceed to the Ohio Senate for additional consideration.
