State Rep. Tracy Richardson | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) presented a resolution to the House Government Oversight Committee urging Congress to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The proposal aims to protect the voting rights of American citizens by requiring states to verify citizenship during voter registration and remove non-citizens from current voter lists.
Richardson emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of voting rights, stating, “The right to vote is a cherished and sacred right of Americans and the framework of safeguarding our self-governance.” She expressed concerns that allowing non-citizens to register and vote undermines this fundamental right. “This resolution seeks to increase the confidence of voters in our elections process,” she added.
To prove citizenship, individuals may use various documents such as a U.S. passport, military ID card, government-issued ID card, certified birth certificate, adoption decree, Naturalization Certificate, or an American Indian Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
House Concurrent Resolution 18 is set for further discussion in upcoming hearings within the House Government Oversight Committee.
