Strong Second Half Moves Walsh Past Malone in Season Finale

The Malone University women's soccer team took to the pitch at King Field on Tuesday evening for the 2022 season finale.

The Pioneers entertained crosstown rival Walsh University.

Despite Malone getting on the scoreboard first, the visiting Cavaliers scored three second-half goals to pull away for the 3-1 win.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Final Score: Walsh University Cavaliers 3 - Malone University Pioneers 1
  • Records: Walsh (8-6-3, 6-5-3 G-MAC) | Malone (1-11-4, 0-10-4 G-MAC)
  • Location: Canton, Ohio | Pioneer Park - King Field
THE MATCH

Just as the 24th minute of the game began, Deborah Messor found Teegan Graff on the left side of the Walsh box. Graff beat the Cavaliers' keeper for her third goal of the season to put Malone ahead 1-0. It was Messor's first assist of the year.

Anchored by five saves from Kassidy Cannon, Malone's defense held strong in the first-half to carry the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Unfortunately Walsh responded with three unanswered goals in the second-half.

Malone's six second-half shots on goal were all saved, and the Cavaliers held on for the 3-1 win.

DETAILS

Graff's third goal of the year moved her into a tie with Brynn Mowrer for the team-lead this season.

Messor is now the seventh different player to record an assist this year.
