The Board of Clark County Commissioners recently hired Dr. Brooke Wagner to serve as its first Reentry Department Director.
Wagner, an Indiana native, is a graduate of Indiana University and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Wagner spent the last nine years as a professor in the Sociology Department at Wittenberg University, focusing on Criminology and Victimology.
Wagner spent seven years as a member of the Clark County Reentry Coalition. She hopes to re-engage community stakeholders to re-establish the Reentry Coalition in the coming months.
Wagner has also spent time helping different non-profit organizations, including Project Woman and Opportunities for Individual Change, analyzing data to help them better serve the community.
“The work of reentry is to help citizens returning to the community after incarceration. I’ve been really interested in reentry and I worked with the former Reentry Coalition to help measure recidivism at the Clark County Jail over the past 10 years,” Wagner said. “It was one of the first community projects I developed after moving to Springfield. Since that time, I’ve been passionate about the needs of people reentering society after incarceration. Our goal is to remove barriers that impact this group’s successful transition back to the community post release. I’m hoping to engage the community in building a robust and holistic system for individuals exiting incarceration and rejoining our communities.”
Wagner is seeking community partners and non-profit organizations interested in working with individuals exiting incarceration.
