The Board of Clark County Commissioners appointed Sasha L. Rittenhouse as Acting Commissioner at this morning’s meeting to replace former commissioner Richard L. Lohnes, who retired effective May 31.
Rittenhouse becomes the 100th commissioner in Clark County history and the third woman to sit on the Board of Clark County Commissioners, joining current board president Melanie Flax Wilt and Merle Kearns. Rittenhouse was sworn-in on Wednesday morning by Flax Wilt.
“I am honored to step in and finish Commissioner Lohnes’ term,” Rittenhouse said. “He leaves behind big shoes to fill and I’m excited about this opportunity. I look forward to working with community leaders to strengthen Clark County.”
Rittenhouse, 42, is a local businesswoman who operates three different family farms, including a beef cattle operation and feedlot. Rittenhouse is a graduate of Northwestern High School, Clark State Community College and the Ohio State University. She’s also a past president of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association and is an active member of both the Clark County 4H and FFA beef committee and the Clark County Cattle Producers. She most recently served on the Clark County Fairgrounds Strategic Planning Task Force. She lives in Pike Twp. with her husband Scott and three children, Lara, Lexi and Rylan.
“We welcome Commissioner Rittenhouse to the board of commissioners, and look forward to great collaboration on behalf of Clark County,” Flax Wilt said. “I personally have known Sasha for many years and have witnessed her grow as a leader, and I’m delighted to work with another agriculturist, business woman and mother on behalf of our community.”
Lohnes, 69, was serving his third term on the Commission. He was first elected in 2010 and was re-elected in both 2014 and 2018. Earlier this year, Lohnes opted not to seek re-election.
The Clark County Republican Party is expected to select an interim commissioner to serve the remainder of Lohnes’ term later this month.
