"Keep making things." That was the goal Tom Moreland and Steve Roberts had when they set out to create their own company. Having been employed at Daido Metal in Bellefontaine when production ended at the facility in 2009, Tom and Steve found themselves starting a new chapter. With their desire to "keep making things," they partnered to open a machine shop in Tom's garage. They pulled together a comprehensive set of machine tools from the many plant-closing auctions happening at the time, and DMG Tool & Die was born.

DMG provides machining, fabrication, and design engineering services. By combining their manufacturing capabilities with their expertise in technical problem solving, they help customers who need a solution but may not have the time or resources to figure out all the details.

In April 2010, DMG moved out of Tom's garage to its current location on the south side of the Daido Metal facility. DMG continues to maintain close ties to Daido and is able to utilize the facility's ample amount of space and power to continue their growth. "We enjoy the opportunity to continue the legacy of manufacturing in the 'Iron City' neighborhood," Tom shared.

Both Tom and Steve are Logan County natives and graduates of Bellefontaine High School. Having seen the progression of jobs and careers available in our community, DMG has "tried to push back against the gutting of manufacturing capacity in our community," Tom and Steve shared. "DMG works to preserve and share the manufacturing skills that are necessary to shape a prosperous future."

DMG Tool & Die is recognized nationally as a reliable source of machining expertise. "We do not have any plaques on the wall, but we have multiple customers who have awarded us six-figure projects without competitive bidding, which conveys a certain level of trust and recognition of our capabilities," Tom explained. This fall, DMG is partnering with ISS America (with facilities in Bellefontaine) to launch their first mass production job. They will also be working with Methodical Automation in Columbus to be able to offer turnkey automation solutions including robot and vision system integration.

DMG Tool & Die is located at 1215 S. Greenwood Street in Bellefontaine. They can be reached by calling (937) 407-0810 or by emailing sales@dmgtool.com. You can visit their website or follow them on Facebook for additional information.
