Local school districts in Union and Marion Counties have received over $87,895 through the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program, according to State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville). The funding is part of a $10 million allocation from the state operating budget aimed at helping districts improve bus safety.
The grant allows districts flexibility in how they use the funds to enhance their bus fleets. Richardson commented on the importance of the initiative: “School buses are costly and yet necessary to transport our students. When buses age, replacing them ensures safety for our children,” said Richardson. “That is why I am grateful we could get some assistance from the state for our local school districts via this grant program.”
Within the 86th House District, Marysville Exempted Village School District was awarded $37,760, North Union Local School District received $25,556, and Marion City School District was granted $24,579.
All school districts that applied for eligible equipment were awarded funds. Schools can use these grants either to add safety features to new buses or upgrade existing ones with new technology.
