State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) has voted in favor of overriding the veto of the SAFE Act and Save Women’s Sports Act by Gov. Mike DeWine. House Bill 68, which was vetoed by the Governor on December 29, aims to protect children experiencing gender dysphoria from undergoing sex change procedures, including chemical castration and invasive surgical procedures. It also includes the Save Women’s Sports Act, which aims to provide safeguards for women's-only athletic competitions from kindergarten through college.

Speaking on the House floor, Richardson expressed her unwavering support for the legislation. In a statement, she said, "At every opportunity, I have voted in favor of the SAFE and Save Women’s Sports Acts and today was no different. Today, I unhesitatingly voted to override the Governor’s veto! Protecting children and ensuring fair competition for women are top priorities."

Richardson's support for the override reflects her commitment to safeguarding the well-being of children facing gender dysphoria and her belief in promoting fair competition in women's sports. By voting in favor of the override, she is standing up for the rights of young individuals and women athletes across the state.

This decision comes amidst a larger national conversation surrounding the rights and treatment of transgender individuals and the inclusion of transgender athletes in sports. The SAFE Act and Save Women’s Sports Act aim to address these concerns and strike a balance between protecting children and preserving the integrity of women's sports.

While some critics argue that these bills infringe on the rights of transgender individuals, proponents emphasize the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of children and maintaining fair competition in women's athletics. Richardson's support for the override aligns with the viewpoint that these measures are necessary to address the unique challenges faced by individuals experiencing gender dysphoria and to uphold the integrity of women's sports.

With Richardson's vote and the subsequent override of the Governor's veto, House Bill 68 will now become law, enacting measures to protect children and preserve the fairness of women's sports in the state of Ohio.
